Sullivan County Community Hospital Addresses Community Concerns Regarding Federal Legislation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SULLIVAN, IN – [2 July 2025] – Sullivan County Community Hospital (SCCH) is aware of recent community discussions and concerns stemming from a proposed federal bill. We want to reassure our community we are closely monitoring the legislative process and remain steadfast in our commitment to providing exceptional care.
SCCH appeared on a recent list related to this bill solely due to our high volume of Medicaid patients (Medicaid payer mix), which is a testament to our dedication to serving all members of our community, regardless of insurance status. This inclusion does not indicate that Sullivan County Community Hospital is currently at risk due to negative financial performance. Our financial health remains stable.
The “big, beautiful bill” currently being discussed has just completed one step in a multi-stage legislative journey. It is very important to understand that this bill has several hurdles to clear before it can become law. Its language, including any proposed provisions, can change significantly at any point along this process.
Proposed changes to Medicaid reimbursement could have a significant impact on rural hospitals, including potentially reducing annual Medicaid reimbursement, leading to a future negative impact. We are actively engaged in carefully following the situation and advocating for the needs of not only SCCH, but all rural healthcare providers. We also acknowledge the ongoing efforts at the state level to overhaul the hospital assessment fee, which could positively impact Medicaid reimbursement.
Sullivan County Community Hospital remains deeply committed to the health and well-being of the community we serve–and have served for over 175 years. We will continue to remain focused on providing the high-quality, compassionate care that our patients expect and deserve.
